Bags with Style and Purpose…by Christabelle

Whole Foods is opening up in my neighborhood at the end of this summer. I couldn’t be more excited to shop…fresh foods – organic greens – fair trade items…this is sure going to beat shopping at the Associated Grocery Store (which I lovingly call the “Ass-Can”) around the corner from where I live. As I prepare for my dream grocer to arrive, I am also conditioning myself to be more green and hug Earth just a little bit tighter. How, you ask, can I do that and still be stylish and every bit the fashionista I am?  Simply put, with ECOBAGS

Did you know that the US Environmental Protection Agency states that over 380 billion (with a “b”) plastic bags, sacks and wraps are consumed in our country this year?  That’s A LOT of plastic – worse yet – only .06% is recycled.  That is why I have devoted myself to shopping with ECOBAGS Totes With Quotes – the eco-friendly reusable bags that are stylish, affordable, fashion forward and GOOD FOR THE PLANET! With celebrity followers like Jessica Biel and Rachel McAdams, you know you are on fashion’s fast track.

With totes featuring “Get Hip To Green”, “Think Global Act Local” , “Make Love Not Carbon”, “Talk Green to Me” and my personal favorite “Nothing On Me is Plastic”; there is sure to be a bag for everyone…including the rocker, the activist, the eco-aware, the parent and even the envogue. Toss these machine washable totes into your purse when you shop at the grocery store, farmer’s market, even at the mall (each bag can hold up to the equivalent of 4-5 plastic bags).  They are great for road trips, the gym and vacations…I have become the talk of the beach with my ECOBAG draped across my shoulder.

With price points that vary from $5.99 – $16, you can follow the BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) mantra even on a budget!  Check out ECOBAGS.com and find the bag that suits your persona.

Silver Belles…Silver Belles…It’s Time for Shoe Shopping…by Carlibelle

I have been a fan of Kenneth Cole shoes for decades, but when I got a whiff (a delicious designer whiff at that) of the new Special Edition Silver 925 styles I had to share a little pre-sale secret. Due to the overwhelming interest and demand for the upcoming launch of the SILVER 925 Kenneth Cole New York Women’s shoe collection, I am pretty stoked to be the one to tell you about a one month pre-sale of the five SPECIAL EDITION SILVER 925 styles. My favorite – Silver Belles (which naturally Kenneth named after us, right?)…thanks KC.

Starting Wednesday, July 1st, run to a Kenneth Cole store near you or tap on-line to kennethcole.com to pre-order a pair (or 2) of the SPECIAL EDITION SILVER 925 styles.  The five limited edition styles, SILVER BELLE, SILVER TROPHY, SILVER TONGUE, SILVER SERVICE, and SILVER SPOON all take a silver brushed stand with a metal heel,  that in the famous words of Rachel Zoe,  ”I Die” - only available via this special presale (from July 1 – August 1, 2009).  Every Kenneth Cole store will carry one  run of the black SILVER BELLE pump for customers to try on and experience first hand. But if you think you are clacking your heels out of the store with a pair – well, think again.  You will be able to pre-order any of the five limited edition styles in a range of colors.  With this exclusive launch quantities are very limited so customers will not be allowed to order more than two pairs per person. Come armed with your fake ID’s, so you can score yourself the full collection.

On August 1st, those who pre-order the shoes have the option to pick up their stunners in-store or have them shipped directly to your home (Kenneth will pick up the shipping tab).   Pre-ordering the shoes is the only guarantee of securing these exclusive and oh-so-coveted SPECIAL EDITION SILVER 925 styles.  Now get shopping…

Pish Posh Meets Rock Glam…

Posted by christabellescloset on May 23, 2009

HAMPTONS EDITION: Hello Mr. Hampton, meet Ms. Rock-It-To-Ya…by Christabelle

KFThe Hampton’s have a certain reputation…pish posh, polished,  polo playing, pedigree folks who summer out east. A little Lilly Pulitzer here, a dash of Ralph Lauren there all contribute to the fairy tale persona of this exclusive vacation destination.  And though I am a fan of crisp whites, monogrammed anything, Hermes scarves and Calypso silk peasant skirts, there is an absence of edgier style on Main Street of East Hampton. At least up until this weekend.

As I snacked on my peanut butter and chocolate ice cream cone from Scoop du Jour,en route to Elie Tahari, blood red and black hit me like lightening bolts from next storefront. A new girl has hit town and she brings with her a rocker chic that ever so desperately needed to be filled – especially in the “haahhmptons dahling”.  That new girl is Kristen Farrell - goldsmith to the stars.

With one peek at her collection, it exudes exquisite passion and work(wo)manship.  With another peek, it oozes  fierce style and individuality. With a third peek, it grabs you tight and doesn’t let go. You need to have it…and you need it NOW.

With every facet of her artistically hand crafted jewelry there are subtle details hidden within. Her appreciation for mystical creatures and medieval armor comes to life as wearable art, fashioned with the finest gems and precious metals.  These “one of a kind” creations, to no surprise,  have been spotted on some of the most influential people in Hollywood and beyond (Tyra Banks, Jessica Alba to name a fabulous few).  And, who can blame them - Kristen Farrell sometimes spends up to six months perfecting one single piece of jewelry. With intense depth and character, Kristen Farrell brings a fresh, new rocker dimension to the upscale jewelry scene (did we mention this talented designer is only in her twenties?). Her energy, excitement, and passion empower each piece allowing the bearer to reveal themselves in ways they never imagined. Bring your AMEX BLACK for these exclusive pieces…starting price to own a piece of Kristen Farrell is $6K …all the way up to and over $110K. And yes, worth every penny.

Visit Kristen Farrell on your next trip out east and tell her Christabelle sent you!

Muffin Tops BE GONE…

Posted by christabellescloset on May 20, 2009

No More Jelly Belly Bulge…by AliBelle

Having beautiful, healthy babies is a blessing…having the muffin top over my jeans that comes along with it – is NOT. During a recent press event in NYC, Christabelle immediately phoned me in Maine to bring the HOTTEST new under-outer garment to hit the market onto my New England radar. A shapewear that not only smoothes the bumps, lumps, nooks and crannies…but is fashionable, chic and even comes in nursing styles!  I was sold just talking to her, but when the samples to review arrived…I cried out in joy that FINALLY someone figured it out…that  someone is Heather Thomson – the stunning (seriously, she is gorge!) genius behind Yummie Tummie.

As a former fashion designer, celebrity stylist, creative force behind P. Diddy’s Sean John line,  labels launched by Beyoncé Knowles as well as Jennifer Lopez’s Sweetface brand and a mommy of two, Heather understands the needs of both celebrities and consumers.

Yummie Tummie is the first shapewear that’s comfortable, sexy and meant to be seen! When Heather became frustrated with the existing shapewear options available to her and her clients – all of which compressed the bust, didn’t stay in place, were horribly uncomfortable and hideous to behold – she schemed, sketched, cut and sewed to come up with an ingenious solution to a universal problem: No matter how young, fit and slender you are, a so-called “muffin top” or tummie bulge will rear its ugly head. And usually at the worst times!  I can recall hideous shapewear we used in college for our formals. At the end of the night, there was a pile of them in the garbage can in the ladies room – NO ONE wanted to be caught wearing “THAT” in the dark…my grandmother wouldn’t even be caught dead wearing those old-school girdles.

The effects of Yummie Tummie are dramatic, both physically and mentally. You will look better, feel more confident, and stand taller. Think of Yummie Tummie as a tank top or T-shirt on steroids: that favorite, super-soft, lightweight cotton wardrobe staple you wear alone or under everything you own. From your bust up and your hip bones down, it is exactly that. But, made with a patent-pending dual fabric technology, its extra bonus comes from its same-tone, firm control midsection panel, which smoothes and shapes your tummie and hips, eliminating pounds off your appearance, and camouflaging any lumps and bumps.

Because that panel is made with a microfiber fabric that actually wicks moisture away, you will always feel cool and comfortable. And, it never, ever rolls, rides up or pushes your “blub” to other locations. It is made with sleek yarns that do not cling, so you can wear it under anything. Yummie Tummie is truly a fabulous undergarment that can be worn each and every day as a foundation, a layering piece, or even on its own.

Get me one of EVERYTHING – EVERY STYLE, EVERY COLOR and STAT…I have never felt thinner, lighter, smoother and sexier.  Get your Yummie Tummie, Tushie, Ta-Tas ONwww.YummieTummie.com

Get Your Booty in a Gear…

GROOVE YOUR BUTT INTO BIKINI SHAPE…by ElizaBelle

June 21st – summer solstice- might seem like an eternity away as you peer out your window and see snow piling in your backyard (that is what living in New Jersey gets you in February!) – truth be told – the first day of summer is sooner than you think.  And no time like the present to get in shape (and of course do it in style and comfort).

For me, looking good and feeling great while I work out is a MUST. Like all other things in life, I feel pretty strongly that wearing kick ass workout gear only enhances my performance (think about it…don’t you feel sexier all day when you are wearing pretty underwear? don’t you feel like you lost weight when you go to the salon and get your hair blown out? Yes – you DO!)  Working out is psychological as much as it is physical. Doce Vida Fitness’ Paraty Pant is the way to go! Doce Vida is unlike any other thanks to the unique moisture wicking, instantly slimming, full motion, 12% stretch fabric that moves with the body. The high-quality fabric truly gives a flattering fit to every woman – no matter what size or shape she may be. Design innovation makes this comfortable pant indispensable. The boot-cut styling fits snuggly over your legs and flares fashionably at the hem. Sitting low on the hips, the wide waistband flatters your tummy line…even pregger moms can wear the Paraty Pant comfortably! Suggested retail price is $88, but the kind folks over at Doce Vida have offered Christabelle’s Closet readers a 20% off discount at their website – WHOO HOO! Just use the code: CC09 at checkout: www.DoceVidaFitness.com  - and let the workout begin…

Now that you have your workout-wear, be sure to treat your feet to a proper fitting and again, oh-s0-stylish sneaker.  With great thanks to the team of genius’ at Nike and Apple, now you can not only workout to your tunes, but you can track your workout. Grab your iPod nano or iPod touch, a pair of Nike+ sneakers , and the Nike + iPod Sport Kit or Sensor. Put the sensor in your Nike+ sneaker— there’s a built-in pocket specifically designed for it under the insole. Then connect the receiver to your iPod nano. iPod touch includes built-in support for Nike+, so no receiver is necessary. The sensor tracks your run, then sends the data to your iPod. You can even send all of the date to your computer to track your success! The kit runs about $29, but remember that you also need to have “Nike +” sneakers that can house the sensor under the insole…truly worth every penny!

The perverbial icing on the cake?  The Casio Baby-G watch. These new colorful luminous color models target energetic, curiosity-filled, fashionable young women (you know you fit the bill!). Available in basic black, hot pink, red, white and yellow, the luminous finish of the bezels and bands of these models let them double as fashionable accessories and make you worthy of gracing the cover of Shape Magazine. For a mere $79, the Casio Baby-G is chock full of fitness-y features like:

Shock Resistant – 100M Water Resistant – LED Light with Afterglow – World Time 29 time zones (48 cities), city code display, daylight saving on/off  – 5 Daily Alarms (1 with snooze)  – Countdown Timer  – Measuring Unit: 1 Second  – Measuring Capacity: 24 Hours  – 1/100 second stopwatch  – Measuring capacity: 59′59.99″  – Measuring modes: Elapsed time, split time, 1st-2nd place times – Hourly Time Signal – Full Auto Calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2099) – 12/24 Hour Format – Button Tone Operation On/Off  – Accuracy: +/- 30 seconds per month – Battery CR1616 – Approx. battery life: 3 years…WOW.

pangea-copySometimes it is challenging to find just the right eco-friendly gift for everyone on your list.  This year I had no problem finding the PERFECT presents with the help of Pangea Organics. This year, the good folks over at Pangea Organics created Holiday Gift Sets for every budget that are not only aromatic and oh-so soothing, but offer a surprise within the gift itself.  Just when you think you’ve gifted a lovely box of top-of-the-line organic body and skincare products—there is more…you’ve also given the gift of giving back to the earth by way of a spruce tree.  Inside the fibers of this (100% compostable, biodegradable, and plantable!) gift box, there’s a Christmas tree just waiting to be planted.  There are three gift boxes available and range in price from $30-$40. You can skip the wrapping paper this season, save a tree, and give the gift of less waste.   (Pictured: The “Joy” Holiday Gift Set, $30, includes Indian Green Tea with Mint Bar Soap, Malagasy Cinnamon Cassia with Cloves Bar Soap, and Pyrenees Lavender with Cardamom LipCare). www.PangeaOrganics.com

For YOURSELF…by Christabelle

Every girl wants to sparkle all over with a little bling. Even if you are a tree hugging, granola eating, back country gal…you still let a little “OOOHHHH” pop out when you see a gorgeous piece of jewelry. You can’t help it. It is part of  your DNA.  What is better than getting a gift you might like? BUYING YOURSELF A GIFT  YOU KNOW YOU WILL LOVE. I am dedicating this post to all the finer things in life that you should gift “TO:Me, FROM: Me”

lieblingI am always on the lookout for the obsure item that no one else has…something with texture and depth. Something just like this….The Firenze Necklace by artist Jessica Liebling of Liebling Designs. One look at this Malachite and Onyx necklace you lose a little bit of oxygen for it’s pure beauty and intricate design. You’ll love to step out wearing this attention getting necklace – for sure!

A perfect ring of gorgeous green malachite chips is topped off with a single black onyx bead, and wrapped in sterling silver wire. The pendant is strung on a dainty sterling silver chain and has a hand formed hook and eye closure.  It is pure perfection.  Measuring 16″ (perfect with my v-neck sweaters!), this stunning piece of HAND MADE jewelry is only $34.00 – NICE PRICE. Rumor has it - Jessica Liebling also created matching earrings…gotta go score me a pair of those!

med_greececollectionI love that I have a Greek heritage…the food, the history, the gorgeous country…and now the JEWLERY. Though not made in my homeland, this stunning bracelet was made with the love of the Greeks in mind.  Jill Golden, Designer and Owner of FlutterNYC.com knocked me clear on my ass (my Greek one at that…thank goodness…it cushioned the fall!) with her “Greece” collection of jewelry this season.

The Greece collection is named for the site chosen by the gods for their reveries and holidays.  Since the bronze age, dating back to 1200 bc the Greeks had a passionate love for gold and objects of beauty (me too! blame my ancestors) . Todays Greece is known as the playground for the wealthy, arty and influential. True to its inspiration, the Greece collection is effortlessly beautiful and cleverly designed – a bit ancient koswith a modern twist. The Kos bracelet ($145 for the 3 piece set) is especially droool-worthy, with unexpected design elements, this heart pounding  3/8″ rounded square bangles (with includes two plated 1/8″ bangles!) with 20 domed studs conjure my inner Aphrodite.  Available in 4 plated colors  – oxidized silver, 18k gold, gunmetal and oxidized brass.

The entire collection pays tribute to the most beautiful islands in Greece…Ios, Paros, Crete, Santorini, Andros, Rhodes…but sadly no Samos (my dad’s island). Perhaps I can convince Flutter NYC to make a special piece just for Christabelle!

A Little Hope Goes A Long Way!

Posted by christabellescloset on November 25, 2008

FOR YOUR TOTE LOVING FRIENDS…by Christabelle

There is nothing better than a sturdy tote that boasts a colorful,  cool design…add a charity donation into that mix and you have the ultimate casual wear tote bag…most specifically Ann Veronica totes – made in New England (you know I have a soft spot for NE!)

These delightful totes are inspired by the people of Maine -  Ann Veronica designed three special bags to embrace their sense of community, optimism and environmental stewardship. A portion of the proceeds from sales is dedicated to the betterment of life in Maine and beyond. No two totes are alike; all are made of 100% cotton canvas, made in the USA and eco-friendly.

The Inspiration Hope Tote (my personal favorite) was made to honor the town of Hope, ME, population 1,310, – a town rich with a sense of family and community, where people still come together to celebrate nature’s renewal each spring with a “perennial swap.” In the spirit of HOPE, 10% of sales will support research for children facing catastrophic illness through. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital  – that is reason enough to purchase one of these beautifully crafted bags!

All of the Inspiration Totes are made from the heart from select remnants of Ann’s most popular patterns and colors – she certainly does her part to be green . Each tote is pieced together carefully and then hand-sewn to allow for an authentic frayed look that will develop over time and use. As if there weren’t enough personal touches added to these totes – your bag also comes signed by the seamstresses who made it!

You can give the gift of HOPE (or a bevy of other gorgeous bags!) at www.AnnVeronica.com – Inspiration Hope Tote (Small $64, Large $78).

GIFT CARDS…GOOD! WEB HOAXES…EVIL!

Posted by christabellescloset on November 20, 2008

>  STORE CLOSINGS AND LAYOFFS
>
>  If you have gift cards, hurry up and use them!!

If you fell for the most current scam being blasted over the internet and to an in-box near you…well, you are not the only one!  The latest web-hoax has hit the WWW and is scaring shoppers away from buying gift cards this holiday season by posting a very ominous list of retailers closing their doors.

Ann Taylor? Gap? Home Depot…could it be? Could all my go-to places to shop be closing their doors? Will my gift cards be worthless in the weeks to come? I was (as you probably were too) “warned” that over 30 of our favorite retailers are all closing shop and that we should NOT buy gift cards from them. As of January 1, 2009, they will no longer have a value. Over thirty companies – even our friend Disney.  Are you smelling a skunk yet? I am.

Come to find out, majority of this list is just plain garbage – a stunt, no doubt – concoted by a marketing genius at one of those gift card swap companies (or even credit card companies wanting to increase pre-loadead card sales). Moral of the story is, do your research and buy gift cards from stores you know and trust.  Truth in the list – sure, some retailers have closed – and they have made it clear for a long time coming – CompUSA, Sharper Image, Levitts…we have heard the bleak news for months now.

To ensure I was giving my readers GOOD COUNSEL on this topic, I did some Nancy Drew sleuthing and got in touch with my friends over at Ann Taylor.  Here is what they had to say about their current state of affairs – which quite frankly, is good news and not anywhere near the doom and gloom as stated in the hoax:

Ann Taylor is a financially strong Company with a healthy balance sheet. We already communicated early this year that we are closing a number of stores through 2010, but we continue to open new stores and have close to 1,000 stores in our fleet. Ann Taylor and LOFT Gift Cards are a great idea for gifting this holiday, and they can be redeemed at any of our stores or online. Although the source of this viral email is questionable, we felt we should clarify the misleading information because we want our clients to always feel confident in their Ann Taylor purchases.

With that said, I am hopping over to Ann Taylor and buying myself an early Christmas treat- a gift card…and I am not going to use it until January 2009 – the inside scoop is it will contain a bounce-back for 15% off my entire purchase when I use it. SCORE!

Our advice – hit “delete” when this e-mail invades your in-box and tell your friends NOT to believe the hype…Spread the word.

Drama should stay where it belongs – in the next episode of The Hills…not in your holiday shopping experience!

No Longer the UG in UGLY…

FOR YOUR SEXY ESKIMO SELF…by Christabelle

I have always been what my boyfriend affectionately refers to as “his little oven” – I am hot all the time. I cause equator-like heat under the sheets and am not opposed to turning on the air conditioning in the middle of February. Blame my Greek/Italian heritage…I am hot blooded…in every sense of the word. That is until about one month ago…where I turned the opposite side of the spectrum into the land of the North Pole. I am cold all the time…and it is ONLY fall (70 degrees at that). A concern indeed, since last winter (still in my “hot” phase), my UGG boots were what got me through the nippy weather of ‘07.

So, alas, I had to take my banged up UGGly boots out of the closet to start wearing them WAY too early. Though as comforatble as can be, I just hate the way the rounded boots make me look like I just stepped out of a clown car. And they hardly stood the test of time, as they looked like my Ford Escape Hybrid had run over them multiple times during summer hibernation - the cushiony pulp busting out of the seams. I went on a mission to find something just as snuggly on the inside (waterproof would be nice), but with a bit more pizazz and a lot more style and comfort (and obviously a little more warmth).

My Nancy Drew sleuthing brought me to SOREL, where I found and fell in deep love with their NEW winter boot called KASKA. A tall suede boot with an optional roll down cuff and adorable details at the ankles (and an oh-so-Viking tie straps around the feet). These chocolate brown hotties (color is called Stout…makes you want to drink a Sam Adams doesn’t it!?) from SOREL have everything I need – STYLE and COMFORT (no more clowning around!), INSULATION (can we say SHEARLING?), and  SNOW AND RAIN RESISTANT (waterproof, soft suede and full grain leather with waterproof/breathable bootie construction). So know I can keep my tootsies toasty whether I am treading tundras or bobbing down Broadway. No more UGGly footwear for me! I can wear these trendy boots with skirts and dresses, as well as tuck them into my skinny jeans. I feel like perhaps this year I have a shot at being voted “SNOW QUEEN” and my Sorel Kaska’s are coming for a ride on the float with me. Available on-line at zappos.com and at Modell’s Sporting Goods retailers nationwide (SRP $184 – in Stout and Toast).

Work Out, Lift Weights…Get Your Body Into Shape!

Posted by christabellescloset on October 14, 2008

FOR YOUR WORKOUT LOVING FRIEND…by Miribelle

Don’t you love exercising in the morning? Running through Central Park, smelling the flowers, taking in some vitamin D and spotting and many hotties as possible? Ah, yes. Running in the morning. I now have sick abs, ultra-toned arms and a super cute running outfit to complete my fit persona. YEAH RIGHT! Too bad I barely have time to put Splenda in my coffee in the morning, let alone run 6 miles and re-beautify myself for work. The only time I get really excited about exercising/make time to do it is when I find a really cute outfit to wear or when I have a new exercise toy to play with. So I welcome any assistance to help nurture my inner Body by Jake. SOOOO when I found the new Italian designed Mio MOTIVA watch and active apparel line Oiselle, I actually started running! After work though. This gal doesn’t rise before dawn. Sunrises are beautiful, but let’s save that for the top of a hill in Tuscany while snuggling with my non-English speaking Italian waiter from the night before.

The Mio MOTIVA watch keeps track of my progress while walking to work and while furiously running in the park to see if that really wasScarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds post nuptials (love that Ryan Reynolds!). The watch’s 3,500 Calorie Countdown Program encourages users to burn 500 more calories than he/she eats. The watch even monitors heart rate, calorie intake and calorie burn. Because there are 3, 500 calories in one pound of weight, helps users to lose at least one pound of weight per week. Not a bad deal. With a sleek and modern UNISEX design, the watch hardly resembles a bulky heart monitor on a chest strap. The company also launched the MioPINK Motiva—a pink watch to help breast cancer research. Ten percent of each MioPINK watchsold is donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Watches are available at Dick’s Sporting Goods or at www.miowatch.com…check out some other great features of the Mio Motiva Watch:

* Visual indicator of exertion level * Percentage of maximum heart rate * Heart rate recovery test designed to measure your fitness level * Five (5) exercise timers:  Count up, Count down, Count up with warm-up, Walk/Run and Repeat * User accessible battery hatch * Interchangeable watch band with colors to fit your every mood (BONUS Band Included) *

AND to offset my kick-ass workout watch, I just discovered my new favorite line of activewear too – Oiselle! I am not a huge fan of shorts…nor can I recall the last time I even put a pair of shorts on before last week, but these puppies fit my curves perfectly – no muffin top to be found – and they cut my legs just in the right spot for a maximum slenderizing effect! The Oiselle ROGA Short is the way to go, whether you are a runner, biker, hiker or yogi…they are made with 100% polyester knit, with a premium lining, an integrated key pocket and a low-rise, flat waistband – perfect for any exercise you adore. I got them in the new fall color Cedar Green (SRP $44), but they are available in a bevy of shades to suit your fashionable workout needs. Paired with the Oiselle Long Run top in Pale Green(SRP $40) and I am like a new woman. A fit woman. A woman ready to conquer the workout world. You can too…check out the entire line of running apparal and more at www.OiselleRunning.com

The Perfect Little Black Everything…

FOR YOUR PERFECTLY CHALLENGED HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTEST…by Miribelle

“What are you going to do when you move into an apartment? You never learned to cook!” said Mommy Miribelle. Pshhh. What IS she talking about? I can make a mean omelet and a hell of a batch of “tear off and plop on the cookie sheet” cookies. And if the spirit REALLY moves me, I can make a stir-fry that will blow your mind (secret ingredient: toasted peanuts). What Mamma Bear, what’s that you say?

That’s…not…real…cooking?!?! Fine. You win. I’ve been lying to myself all this time. But at least I’m better off than some of the losers I met in college. Their idea of cooking was putting something in the microwave for 5 minutes. And so, when Christabelle heard about this new cook book, “The Little Black Apron, A Single Girl’s Guide to Cooking with Grace and Style” she ran to Barnes and Noble and practically threw it on my desk (SRP $14.95). Although a tad insulted at first, I decided to give the book a try…and was I impressed! Written specifically for the chic, stylish city gal (moi for sure!), the cookbook provides easy and healthy recipes, cooking techniques and delicious, sexy anecdotes. I can now make a single serving of chicken for my Miribelle-only nights, a double serving of salad for when my friend Nikki comes over, in fear that she will one day turn into a mac and cheese noodle, and dessert for when boyfriend comes over for a late night snack.

And as if I could get even more chic…I always try to pair my Little Black Apron recipes with a bottle of Little Black Dress Wines (SRP $9.99)…especially for those EXTRA special nights (i.e. the Emmys, Thursday nights for Greys, and of course when I want to play master chef and plan a dinner party). Voted the “best new wine brand” in 2007 by Market Watch Magazine, these wines are perfect for any wine-worthy occasion, price and all! The bottles are even reason to keep them displayed on your counter. From black tie events to backyard barbecues, Little Black Dress offers four varietals to accompany any get-together: Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. Total BONUS: Little Black Dress Wine is a proud supporter of the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation®, which raises money to support various children’s charities – started by Jane Kaczmarek (“Malcolm In The Middle”) and Bradley Whitford (“The West Wing”).

So we’ve got the food, the drinks…but I have to address the most important question! What SHALL we wear?! A dinner party ain’t no dinner party without the perfect little black DRESS. Timeless and classic, if you have the perfect black dress, you’re set for life. I actually recently wore the same black dress I wore to just about everyone’s Sweet 16 to a cocktail party (I was the backup-backup-backup-BACKUP date for a friend and my regular go to L.B.D. was at the cleaners). It may be over a decade old, but satin is satin (in a tasteful way, not in a cheesy 80’s way). And since I’ve been such a health nut lately (thank you to my crazy friend Tina) I actually fit in it. The weight was distributed a BIT differently (helloooo tush) but I still knocked ‘em dead. Check out the new Laila Azhar black satin bubble dress on ChristabellesCloset.com for your answer to that perpetual question… “What am I going to wear?!?!?!” . Top it with Cole Haan satin rhinestone heels (just marked down at ChristabellesCloset.com) - and you are Red Carpet Ready…Joan Rivers get ready!

When I got my first job in New York City, as a PR Assistant, the Ann Taylor that shared space in the building I worked became my go-to-store for the essentials I needed to fill my new role with the big players. I have a soft spot for the company that fashioned me for my first interview, my first big corporate PR event and a number of “whoops I snagged my stocking right before the big meeting” dilemmas.  I was thrilled to learn every Fall, Ann Taylor offers the sale of ANN Cares Cards in all of the Company’s stores and on-line

Let it Be…Let it Be…On your Chest

Posted by christabellescloset on August 20, 2008

We’ve heard of the perfect t-shirt bra and the perfect t-shirt-and-jeans jeans. But what about the perfect actual t-shirt? I found the ultimate company to fulfill all your t-shirt needs- Just Be Products LLC (SRP $15-$20). Each tee makes a statement without screaming, fits to your body while still allowing you move and (added bonus) teams up with organizations to help various causes (The Red Cross and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, just to name a few!). Each tee allows people to express how they feel, or how they want to feel. So Carrie Bradshaw can wear the “Be Fabulous” tee, Avril Lavigne can wear the “Be a Sk8R” tee and John Travolta and Uma Thurman can wear the “Be Cool” tee. Judging from my last few posts, I think it’s only natural (ha-ha, no pun intended. Just corniness) for me to wear the “Be Organic” tee. Your kids don’t have to BE left out of the crowd…they have mini Just Be tees for them and super sized ones for men! The whole family can live happily in JB!

And if you really want to inspire, you should take a look at “Be a Donor” (Red Cross) and “Be Pink” (Making Strides against Breast Cancer walk). Just Be employees are participating in the walk in Concord, NH this October and will donate a portion of the sales from the “Be Pink” tees to fund breast cancer research. Go JB! Wish we could BE there with you. And a shout out to our fave actress Christina Applegate, for BEing breast cancer free! We love ya girl!

So go listen to “Let it Be” by The Beatles and throw on your new, super cozy JB tee (maybe “Be Funky?”) and show the world how you, well…Be.  Just Be tees can be purchased at www.jb-justbe.com

Handbag Heaven…

Posted by christabellescloset on August 18, 2008

My love of shoes is a deep seeded one…so you can only imagine what my love of handbags is. Let’s just say that my next apartment will have a room dedicated to them. A shrine to all things pretty – featuring my Fendi’s, Gucci’s, Louis’ and Prada’s. But now, in addition to their high end sisters, there will also be spaces for my NEW FAVORITE indie handbags that I came across in my travels these past few weeks.

Straight from the streets of my beloved Newport, RI, where I spent many a beach day and drunken night while getting my undergrad at URI, arrives MIKIJA Papyrus handbags. It was the super-cute boxy shape and bold patterns and prints that initially caught my eye on these fabulous handbags, but it was the notion that they are constructed of paper that got me buying THREE (yes, three, sigh…I have issues!).  Started just one year ago, these exotic paper handbags have blown onto the fashion scene full force and will be accompanying me on my vacation in Montauk, NY next week (eat your heart out Hamptonites).  Thinking these beauties are going to collapse at the mere drop of water from the sky? Think again – these bags are made from durable chipboard with intricately designed paper selections mounted to them. Not for use toting the kitchen sink back and forth to work everyday, but certainly my choice purse for a special birthday dinner at East by Northeast this weekend for a certain special guy in my life. Ranging in price from $22- $29, there are currently 16 different designs available (with more in the wings) at Mikija.com. Buy one, buy three, buy 10!!

Patricia Field was the style director on the set of Sex and the City, so it is safe to say that ANYTHING sold in her fabulous boutique on Bowery (in the uber fashionable NYC) is going to be incredible (with a cherry on top).  When I found L~Shandi’s newest creation – the Qui Qui Clutch - I nearly fell over myself. I instantly channeled into Charlotte (who I just adore!), with my strapless a-line dress, my large frame Jackie O shades and my darling clutch in hand. L~Shandi was created from a Nigerian street slang “Lepa Shandi” a complimentary term for a woman whose clothing, outfit, or ensemble has a flattering and sexy fit.  I want to be considered a Lepa Shandi every day. And now I can, with this stunning handbag made from African lace with edges that are always strategically placed in L~Shandi designs. What looks like holes in the fabrics are hand cut eyelets that are part of the fabric design! Very chic indeed. Not to mention there are embroidered flowers on the front that I swear are Gerber daisies (my all time favorite flower). My personal favorite is Brown Sugar, but all four shades are simply stunning.  Check out the new Qui-Qui clutch at LShandi.com and make SURE to click to the gorge dresses too! You will want to saunter down your own catwalk in an ensemble from L~Shandi.

And how, you ask, am I keeping my new treasures clean and free of germs? A whole lot easier since I came across ZookHooks.  Did you know the Today Show reported that the bottoms of handbags are “the 12th germiest place on Earth”? Yah…it made me vomit a little in my mouth as well. So, how do we keep our little designer babies from becoming this unnerving and quite frankly, disgusting statistic? Buy a ZOOKHOOK! The classy ladies from the 1950’s knew a thing or two about keeping their luxurious effects in tip-top condition and now Alexis Meisel has brought the notion of a “purse hanger” into the 21st century with ZookHooks. Simply place the disc on the table with the hook pointing underneath, hang your handbag, purse (or anything with handles) from the hook and keep germs, dirt and gunk OFF your belongings. The disc has a rubber backing to keep it from slipping off the table and doesn’t scratch or leave marks on the surface you attach it to. With dozens of designs to choose from (like Czech Crystal, Pet Lovers, Cocktail Collection, Bling and more), you will find yourself filling your cart to the brim with these ingenious bag savers! They even have gift sets that include a purse hanger and a key hook (to keep your keys within reach) - perfect pressie for your best friend or sister! Prices are all under $20, so you can afford to splurge and purchase a handful of these cuties (never too early to think stocking stuffers). Now if Alexis could only invent a subway hanger to keep NYC grim off my bag while I am riding the 2 train…help a sister out! Check out ZookHooks at ZookHooks.com and grab them while they are still in stock!

Diamonds (or really cool jewelry) are a Girl’s Best Friend…

Posted by christabellescloset on August 7, 2008

By Miribelle
Turquoise water, golden sunsets and soft white waves (I’m not anxiously awaiting the new Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants or anything) always inspire me to wear, or rather give me an excuse to buy new, exotic jewelry to match my new brightly colored summer dresses (If you happen to be traveling to basically any country outside of the US, go to Bershka! All my favorite frocks are from Bershka…more colors and patterns than my suitcase can hold!) In the past few years, I’ve learned that I’ll get a lot more wear out of my clothes if I super-accessorize simple outfits. After months of searching (literally! It’s already August…how sad), I finally found my go-to treasure chests.

The Pangea Collection (www.pangea-collection.com) has pieces inspired by different cultures, satisfying my thirst for world travel. The name itself defines the company—Pangea was a super-continent believed to be in existence over 250 million years ago. Similarly, the Pangea Collection brings all countries together in a one-stop-shop website. The website is like a “virtual vacation,” telling the story of each piece, including its origin and artisan. My fave of the week, the Blue Camel Bone Cascading Necklace from the Mumbai Mystique collection (remember those daydreams of India little Sara had in A Little Princess? That’s EXACTLY what these pieces look like to me) went perfectly with my white-almost-Greek-goddess-perfect dress last Friday. I looked just like the Greek goddess Christabelliki. The other collections include jewelry from Brazil, Canada, the Caribbean, Thailand, Bali, The Baltics, Ecuador, Uganda, Bangladesh, Mexico, Nepal, Chile and Kenya. Whew. ADDED BONUS: (Don’t you love when that happens?) Founder Patricia Pinkey only works with Fair Trade Organizations from around the world, and strives to help better the lives of local artisans struggling to make a living.

Devon Leigh’s designs first caught my eye in last November’s InStyle with gorgeous amber drop earrings. I rediscovered this jewel-infested site just last week and fell in love all over again. Each piece is hand-crafted, using a wide array of materials, including raw semi-precious stones (even tiger’s eye…my fave!), gold foils, pearls and silver, just to name a few. The jewels look like they could have been part of a lavish chandelier in Buckingham Palace (maybe shedding some light on Prince William while doing…homework?) in a past life. BTW—she plans on conquering fashion accessories and home décor in the coming months. View her whole collection at www.devonleighdesign.com
In order to compliment my neck bling, I obviously had to find a matching piece for my wrists. As I said before, I’ve tried to move away from plain-Jane jewelry, so I’ve finally branched out to (gasp!) different colors and shapes! I came across www.rimistyle.com , an all inclusive accessory motherland. With affordable prices and a wide range of trendy items, I was in web-surfing heaven. My new favorite piece is the Caribbean Cruise Cuff in Natural. The bracelet makes a statement, so make sure you don’t wear it with too many other crazy jewels. If it’s too much flower power for your liking, they have TONS of other super-cute accessories for you to oooo and ahhh at—rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, wallets and even handbags. Happy Shopping!

We Will, We Will Rock You!

Posted by christabellescloset on August 5, 2008

I recall sitting at my Greek Orthodox Church in Tenafly, NJ – as a mini me – looking around at the spectacular artifacts and architecture wide eyed and in amazement. I didn’t (and still don’t) speak a lick of the language, so unfortunately, the 2 hour + liturgy went unheard and my eyes did all the listening. I imagined my wedding some day – walking down the mile long aisle, I admired the breathtaking mosaic artwork and the mysterious symbols that lived on the walls of the massive establishment. One of which was the Chi Rho (pronounced “He-Rho” in Greek).

Chi Rho Cuff in Rock This Town Brown - SRP $125.00

When I stumbled upon indie jewelery company Rock Your Religion, I was expecting to see large Madonna like crosses (circa 1985), rosary beads and other over-the-top religious icons. To my surprise, it was anything but.  Rock Your Religion offers an array of artistically creative, and tastefully made Crosses, Stars of David – Peace Signs and CHI RHOS!  Yes, I was really excited to see the familiar sign, but even more excited to learn the meaning behind those enigmatic symbols from my childhood visits to church.

A symbol of Christ,  made up of the Greek letters X and P, Chi Rho is a good luck charm with an ancient history dating back to 312AD. That year,  Emperor Constantine had a vision of the Chi Rho symbol in the sky accompanied by the Greek words ‘En Touto Nika,’ which means ‘In This Sign, You Will Conquer.’  And now, in 2008, it has been transformed into cutting edge accessories, thanks in part to Maria and Barbara Serbes – the mother/daughter dynamo team behind the Rock Your Religion vision.

Howie D's Chi Rho Pendant to benefit Lupus SRP $35

My favorite item, worn in conjunction with my blue-eye bead (Mati), makes me feel a little bit like a modern day Wonder Woman (and people have noted my uncanny resemblance to Linda Carter time and time again) – ready to fight off evil and let goodness conquer all, but with a rock star edge. The Unisex Chi Rho Cuff in Rock This Town Brown
(SRP $125), made of saddle brown Italian leather and silver studded to perfection, has made a permanent home on my left wrist (by choice – as this does come with a buckle to remove it, but who would want to?).  With it’s delicate blend of edgy rock and heartfelt meaning, I feel empowered wearing this kickin’ cuff. And I am not the only one!  Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony and Backstreet Boy Howie D have all been spotted sporting the Chi Rho from Rock Your Religion too!  In fact, Howie D has even collaborated with the Company to create a Chi Rho pendant to benefit the Dorough Lupus Foundation (in memory of his late sister, who died of the disease a few years ago).

I have a renewed sense of hope wearing my Chi Rho - “EFKARISTOU” (thank you in Greek) Serbes family – for marrying inspiration and faith with charity, fashion and ingenuity! Outstanding…

The Chi Rho cuff, pendant and other religious symbols can be purchased at www.RockYourReligion.com and select retailers, including Stitch Boutique in Sarasota, Fla.

Now GO ROCK YOUR RELIGION…quick – before they sell out. Ella, ella…

Everyone is a KRITIK…

Posted by christabellescloset on May 9, 2008

KRITIK Hilary HoodieI like to live a Juicy life…love my velour and terry track suits just like everyone else in NYC. The little “J’ dangles at my chest…the word”JUICY” reads across my bum (to my mother’s dismay). It is iconic…hell…I am living in the “Glamourous USA”.  Walking proudly in comfy couture…

But what happens when the juice runs dry and you are longing for cozy threads that perhaps don’t match every gal on the planet…ENTER KRITIK. I am beyond obsessed.

With clean lines, flattering cuts and ADORABLE color palettes – I quickly found my obsession growing with each click Kritik Stella Hoodieof my mouse.  It has taken lounge wear to A WHOLE ‘NOTHA LEVEL and I am counting the days until I can bust on the scene in my new ensemble – in particular the KRITIK Stella hooded pullover and short set (see left). A throwback to my mom in the 70’s…this chic set can walk me from the beach to the bistro with ease and with a bit of Lia Sophia jewlery as frosting and a hot pair of wedge slip ons…I plan to make quite the fashion statement out on the town and into the twilight.

Kudos to designer and ex-publicist Jonathan Cheban (who consequently hails from Bergen County – like myself)! He has inspired us to all live in chic comfort and class with a dash of Kritik on top (or bottom – or both!). Out with the “J” and in with the “K”…

Super sexy and the oh-so-fashionable Kardashian sisters are HUGE fans of the brand – as are the Duff sisters, La Lohan, reality tv villain Heidi Montag and Princess Paris…to name a few. But quite frankly, seeing ME romp in my Stella Pullover in Montauk this summer should be enough validation for you all!

Check HERE to visit Kritik’s myspace page for more info…
